My good friend Jillian reminds me frequently....
It is okay.
It IS okay.
It is OKAY...
It is okay that I've fallen off the marathon training plan this week (I've been running more than I ever have before...and have somewhat jacked up my right leg...so some rest is good, right?).
It is okay that I have six evaluation reports to write for work right now (I've been billing a somewhat absurd number of hours lately).
It is okay that my house is not spotless....and is really seldom as clean as I'd like it to be (I'm really not home many hours of the day between work and working out...and when I am home, sometimes it IS nice to sit back for at leat a FEW minutes! We got an ad in the mail for a cleaning service today...man, that would be great!).
It is okay that I often go to work with still-wet hair (at least it means I showered, right?).
It is okay that I still haven't finished my wedding scrapbook and we've been married nearly three years (at least I printed out the pictures!).
It is okay that I eat too much sugar (ok, this one probably ISN'T really okay ;)...but it tastes good! HA! ).
It is ok that I really like my personal space and really don't like to be touched (hugs from friends are good...but I can't handle strangers touching me or getting too close. Freaks me the heck out in a major way).
It's ok not to have all of the answers when parents ask me about their kids...right?
It is okay that I sometimes feel like everything is slipping out of my control (we can't control everything....right?? I know...because I certainly try).
This isn't about making excuses.
This isn't about settling.
(Even though, I have to admit, I struggle with the concept and still sometimes feel like a failure)
Even when it doesn't feel like it....
....it is okay.
...right???

Jeez, I find a last minute cheap flight and go to Paris for a couple of days, get back, check your blog and I only thought Lutherans could self loathe on this level :)
Okay, so you overdid it with the 80 mile week, during the hottest time of the year and your paying for it. Heal up, rest up, Pedialyte (Gatorade is for fools) and get your body regrouped. The guideline is never increase your mileage more than 5 percent a week or bad things can happen. Didn't Higdon mention that ? Whoopsie Daisy. Your closer to 30 than 20.
Oh yeah, and healing your body up with junk food make a lot of sense as I 'wag' a finger at you. Okay, let's just say you cannot cook, which is ridiculous, and that you have to eat out more. Places to eat that have well prepared food and they all have takeout too:
Garlic Press has a restaurant. They also have takeout section for foods you can heat at home.
Biaggi's-- Nutritional lunches and also evening meals feature half sized pasta portions that when combined with a soup or salad are inexpensive and of great quality.
Orient Gourmet: Always good fish dishes and specials. Always quality sushi. Fairly priced.
Beningo's Restaurant: A bit tricky to find on the west side of Bloomington. Everything is freshly prepared and competes favorably with Biaggi's and in some cases superior in food quality due to their commitment to fresh ingredients.
Nana Thai, great food, lousy service, we always get takeout. Duck in red sauce is great ! Thai Palace, looks terrible on the outside, great food on the inside. Any of the Basil dishes are good.
Moe's, Chipotle, Chili's, Olive Garden and the rest are for suckers :). If you are indeed desperate for a burger or Italian Beef, go to Boo Boo's Dawg House or Aleta Janes. Aleta's is scary at first, but the food is well prepared, the kitchen is immaculate. For pizza, Rosati's.
Careful with too much dissatisfaction, you mistakenly start listening to other dissatisfied people who want you to make the same fracking mistakes they have. And you know who I'm talking about !
I'm now going to unpack the French air out of my suitcase.

Oh Romo. Paris?! You lucky, lucky dog!! :)
I wasn't REALLY self-loathing, c'mon now ;).
I know, I know. It was crazy. I had heard the never increase by more than 5% a week...but I was just following the damn Hal Higdon Advanced plan...thought I could hack it. Clearly, I thought wrong! I made it like 11.5 weeks through the plan, that should count for something...right?? ;) I'm not a total loser/out of shape slacker, right?
Pedialyte? Cool. I'll go get some. I don't like Gatorade, or Powerade.
Oh, come on, I don't eat ALL junk food ;). I do eat my fair share ;). I'd say I eat generally healthy...but then go nuts a little too often as well ;). I know I have room for improvement. "Thanks" to being gluten intolerant, though, I can't really eat some of the really bad stuff so I guess that's a blessing ;).
I CAN cook...I just don't have near enough time. I daresay I am even a pretty GOOD cook, so there ;). HA! However, many nights I work til close to 7 and then I run...so we eat out or just eat crap around the house. Bad combo, I know...I know.
Love Garlic Press...a little far away from my house, but they have gluten free stuff so I am down with them :).
Biaggi's is one of my favorite restaurants in town. I could seriously live off of their messina salads. They are one of my favorite things...ever. Plus, they have a HUGE gluten free menu! Right up my alley! I love them.
Orient gourmet...I tend to stay away from asian food because of all of the gluten/soy sauce/etc...I know there are gluten free options, but I stay away because the chance for cross contamination (due to not understanding me or whatever) freaks me out. Totally not worth getting sick over.
As far as pizza...my husband loves Rosati's :), but alas, no GF options there. Since Firehouse moved to town, though, I am in pizza heaven as they have a really good gluten free crust option. MMMM! Love that with mozzerella, mushrooms, and pineapple :). MMM!!!
Anyway...THANKS for all of the tips!!! You're great :)
Have an awesome day,
R
